Checklist for Spring Lawn Care

Spring Lawn Care Checklist for a Great Summer Yard

SPRING LAWN CARE | LAWN MAINTENANCE
It happens every year. Spring comes after winter like clockwork, there is no way to avoid it. Depending on the type of person you are, spring is welcomed or dreaded. If you own a home, it may be the latter because spring lawn care can be tedious and overwhelming. Some choose to call a professional landscaper while many decide to tackle their spring lawn care schedule themselves.
A great yard is not something that comes easy. Everyday there is a new weed popping up or a dead spot that needs reseeded. Those are just a few examples of daily up keep for a yard but spring lawn care is much more intensive in order to start a yard off right for the growing season. Good spring lawn care will also minimize the work needed during the year to make sure every blade of grass is perfect until next fall.

Checklist for Your Spring Lawn Care Schedule

As winter leaves and spring arrives, there are several practices you should add to your spring lawn care calendar to be more prepared for your upcoming yard work.
  • Prepare your lawn equipment before you need to use it. Things like sharpen lawn mower blades, change oil in equipment and assess tools for working use.
  • Test your lawn’s soil. In order to know what fertilizer or other additives may be needed to keep your lawn clean and green, you should test your soils each spring.
  • Over seed bare spots. Winter can leave dead spots in your yard, which can be repaired individually as part of your lawn maintenance schedule in spring.
  • Treat and prevent weeds. Cool season weeds will be popping up across your yard. Treat them now. Also, use pre-emergers or preventers like those for crabgrass so that those more warm-season weeds will be prevented before they have a chance to affect your yard. A great option is using a spring lawn fertilizer with a weed control component already mixed in.

3 Spring Lawn Care Todos

Late winter and early spring lawn care tips are numerous but for most there are far too many to consider to complete them all. Here are the top three early spring lawn care todos to get on your spring lawn care schedule in order to get your yard in perfect shape.
  1. Repair damage caused by snow removal activities. Removing snow usually involves machines, which can damage areas of your lawn around sidewalks, driveways and along roadsides. Repair damaged areas by reseeding. Also, snow removal can leave debris (stones, leaves, etc.) in your yard. Part of spring lawn care is to clean up winter waste.
  2. Trim trees and shrubs. Having a qualified landscaper take this on makes sure they are trimmed in a manner that does not harm the tree or shrub. With that in mind, make sure all are trimmed as part of your lawn care calendar for the spring.
  3. Remove the fluff. Throughout the course of the growing year, dead grass, debris and other material builds up in your lawn. The final of three early spring lawn care tips is to rake your yard and clean up fluff that has accumulated from last year.
If you put together a spring lawn care schedule and checklist and then implement those lawn maintenance activities, you will ensure a healthy and beautiful lawn all summer long.
